Do I need to take a standardized test in English to apply?

No. You don’t need to submit any formal tests of English, such as TOEFL or IELTS, if you have those test scores that’s fine, but they are not necessary for your application. If you can demonstrate an adequate level of English via years of English study, experience, transcripts, that’s fine. We interview all the finalists for the Team in English via Skype. Since verbal skills are more important than written skills for this program, we rely more on that interview than we do the test scores to judge your level of English.

Why do we go to so many countries?

The only way to really teach innovation is to take people out of their comfort zones and get them to stop trying to control everything. That’s why we will be traveling all the time, so people can’t get comfortable and predictable. We want them to be able to constantly react and adjust to new experiences and environments. The training is invaluable, but it’s not tourism. The traveling is an integral part of the formation

Why do you give so many full scholarships? Can this be real? It sounds too good.

We need really good applicants. If we ran a traditional tuition based program we’d have to accept some weaker students just because they were paying. With the scholarships, we can select the best applicants with the “most open mindsets”. This program will be intense. If you are selected, you’ll be studying and working with some of the most creative people on the planet. Going to 40 countries is expensive. Therefore we have to give a lot of scholarships, because most of the people we need would otherwise not be able to afford such a program. We’re offering scholarships to attract the best people we can, plain and simple.

Do I need to have super grades in my past studies?

No. Professors around the world will tell you that the best students don’t always get the best grades. We’re looking for people with potential. Good grades are very helpful but unlike other scholarships, we’re judging personality too.

What can I expect to do after completing the program?

  • Open your own business that has a competitive advantage, which is the key to a successful new business.
  • Be hired by one of the companies you will work with in one of the Problem-Based Learning segments. Remember that you will work for firms and institutions on projects they assign during the year. If these firms are impressed with your work they will hire you.
  • Consulting: We hope to be able to offer firms and institutions an international, “mission impossible” type consulting team made up of graduates from the Word Innovation Team program, who will be able to assemble anywhere in the world and work on really difficult problems.

Can people from any country join?

Of course. We want to select the best people from all over the world. We expect that there will be people from over 25 countries on the Team. No country will be given preference. Everyone has an equal opportunity.

What about the video?

The video doesn’t have to look professional, it just needs to have something distinctive that sets it and you apart. If you don’t want to do a video, you can submit the essay, and the essay can be as simple as one sentence. Applicants who submit videos will not be given preference over the applicants who choose the essay option. Both videos and essays will be evaluated equally. The application will be judged in its entirety, no one factor will be determining. The video or essay is only one factor which we will consider.

Why do I have to pay an application fee?

  • Because space on a program like this is limited. Therefore we have to spend a lot of time reviewing the applications, and that evaluation costs money.
  • Most private schools and universities charge application fees for their programs: Harvard University does, so does Stanford University, and more than 2,500 other schools in the USA. They also charge students fees once they enroll, and usually additional fees at graduation in order to receive the diploma or certificate – but we don’t. The only fee we ever charge is the one-time application fee. Governments also charge people application fees when they apply for visas, even if the visa gets rejected. The fee covers the administrative costs. It is standard procedure worldwide.
  • If you get a scholarships you are getting free tuition, accommodation in hotels for a year and travel to 40 countries. It’s a lot. Life is an investment. In order to get a lot, you have to invest a little.
  • The fee is to apply to the program, it is not for the scholarship.

How can I pay the application fee?

Credit card via our secure website or bank to bank transfer. If you want to use a bank to bank transfer let us know via email and we will issue you the receiving bank details.

Do I need to be worried about money even if I get a full scholarship?

No. If you get a scholarship you don’t have to pay housing for 11 months or for transportation (gasoline if you have a car or motorbike, or bus, train). You’ll also save on clothing as you won’t buy much because you certainly don’t want to carry a lot of things with you from country to country. That’s a lot of money saved. Food you have to buy no matter where you are, whether you are on the World Innovation Team or not, you still have to eat. Therefore the only costs you will have are:

  1. The one-time application fee
  2. Visa costs during the program
  3. Health insurance (a requirement for your visa)
  4. Travel to the first country (Thailand) and travel from the last country we visit.

What if I don’t have the necessary educational background?

Send us your profile with your education and experience to info@worldinnovationteam.com and then we will let you know if your background is okay to apply. Sometimes experience can compensate for education.

How creative do I need to be?

We’re looking for people with certain mindsets, who are adventurous and ready for anything. We’re looking for sharp, intelligent, personable people who love freedom, travel and challenges.

Can I do the program part time?

Yes, you can take up to 3 years to finish the program if you are selected. That means if you don’t have 1 year to devote to the Team, you can spread out your studies over 3 years. The only requirement here is that you take the first course, (creativity) with the group.
